Somatic Bodywork
Healing Intensives

The only limitation to total transformation is one question - "how much am I willing to feel?"

If you are ready to go deep, brave the intensity of your own shadow,

and embrace the healing journey to re-discover your gold - this is for you.

Daniel has such an intentional, light, and intuitive touch that unfurled some seriously locked up spaces all down my spine-- especially in my neck.

Today I woke up for the first time in months without a painful headache coming from the base of my skull.

In fact, I feel lighter and happier than I have in a very long time.

- Annika B.

I was a professional athlete for 14 years and have worked with some of the best in the world when it comes to bodywork and massage therapists.

My first session with Daniel blew me away. He might be the best I have ever worked with! He is incredible.

I feel extremely fortunate to have found him. I now have hope of a future without pain.

Thank you, Daniel!

You are a best kept secret of this region.

- Veronica C.

My work with Daniel was AMAZING.

He is deeply intuitive and has vast anatomical knowledge. He was very intentional and I felt deep layers of myself, from old injuries, releasing.

I get bodywork pretty often and have experienced many different practitioners. Daniel is a true treasure.

He has a great understanding of the body on so many levels.

- Abby C.

Where exactly does "self" transformation occur?

If you made the decision to finally get to the bottom of your limiting beliefs, physical pain patterns, buried emotional traumas...

To fully reveal the "ME" that you have dedicated your entire life to believing in...

If you chose to fully commit to seeing just how far you could plunge into the depths of your self...

How deep would you allow yourself to go?

Would you turn away from the heavy emotions, hidden memories, and your shadow...

Or would you press on, knowing that the Gold of who you know you can be is waiting to be found in the discomfort of who you're leaving behind?

What would it look like to sift all the way to the bottom and clean the slate?

Enter the world of Somatic Therapies:

The premise - our 'self' is an entire world inside of us.
A lifetime of experiences mold our ideas and concept of self and are registered within our very physicality.

Stored inside our body are all of our feelings, beliefs, patterns, behaviors - the good, the bad, the ugly. Our "Self" is the sum of the things we have collected over the years. And the body is the final recording of it all.

Our tissues, our nervous system, and the
fascia that connects all systems of the body, is like a mold of clay that holds the container of our identity. A psychology that is not limited only to the mind, but one that is fully embodied.

Where is this in my Body? This is our meditative inquiry.

And, the therapeutic tools that aid our investigation into 'our stuff' - is anything that causes us to FEEL deeper, so that we can 'see' ourselves without blind spots, avoidance, or distortion.

My "weapon of choice" for deep somatic inquiry?

Fascia-based therapies like Myofascial Release and CranioSacral Therapy.

Undoing what has been done...

When a person goes through a stressful or traumatic event, but doesn't fully process the experience, parts of us get stuck in the Fight, Flight or Freeze response.

Inflammation occurs, the body does its best to protect itself from further damage, and we find ourselves quite literally hardening.

But it isn't just muscles that get stiff - it's the entire network of Fascia, that comprises and joins all of our tissues together, from muscle, to bone, to nerve, and even the tissue within our brains.

The dehydrated and calcified fascia
literally becomes the ropes that bind us to the experiences of the past, in our body, in our sense of self, and our thoughts.

And they carry on long after the events that caused them, unconsciously wreaking havoc on our lives.

Our very sense of self warps around these sticking points as we carry on, identified with the 'history' of everything that has ever happened to us as recorded by our body.

And even if you feel you've never been through a 'traumatic event' this accumulation of our stressful experiences is inevitably what shows up as disorder, disease, and chaos within the body. Things that Western medicine never included in the allopathic model but are coming to be accepted as key components to health.

Just like we can not see our own shadow, we can not feel the parts of us that are unintegrated and disconnected from our conscious awareness.

These are the parts of our body that we 'didn't even realize' were in discomfort until they either get touched by someone skilled, or injury finally forces us to reckon with what has been lurking beneath the surface.

But also, these are the emotions which we never allowed ourselves to feel, either from fear of the consequences of our vulnerability, social and family pressure to 'get over it', or our own maladaptive patterns to protect ourselves from having to feel things that frankly are not fun to feel.

These 'stuck emotions' become our beliefs, which become our behaviors, which become our identity - and they have far reaching implications for those of us who want to reach our potential, live our best lives, and overcome our limitations in order to do great things with our lives and in the world.

My name is Daniel,
& I know this story of stuck trauma intimately,
because it's also my own...

Flashback to early 2009-10. I was barely there. A ghost living a ghost life. Physically, I had no stamina or energy. Mentally, addicted to cigarettes, weed, porn and all manner of bad choices. Always in a state of freak-out and making no progress in my life. Neurotic, depressed, anxious, and unable to do anything about it. If 'self-care' was a word, I didn't know it. I could barely keep my life together, and my body was a total wreck.

Totally unaware of what was buried within me... I hadn't even begun to unpack...

I only ever became interested in bodywork therapies because I was having issues with my shoulder after surgery to remove a benign tumor... just for the physical pain and mobility I had lost. I wasn't expecting anything more than that.

But in 2012, as I started to get interested in health & healing therapies... it was only the very first time I saw my first mentor and teacher work... the woman on his massage table erupted into what seemed like a full on exorcism of screams and crying.  My mind was in disbelief. I thought they were trying to put on a show and scam me out of $250 and a weekend of my time.

It was an initiation that marked my awareness with what was really possible in the realm of 'healing' and I was quickly all-in.

\

During this time, I kept pursuing own healing, and was surprised to have several more 'intense' emotional release experiences, even recovering traumatic memories.

I had one of my first flash-backs of an injury during a CranioSacral treatment to hitting my head during a sledding accident at only 4-5 years old and how that pain, fear, and anger was embedded in my anterior neck.

Similarly, I remembered almost choking to death while falling off of a swing set and having the wind knocked out of me. During that experience, I felt what could only be described as a stomach herniation releasing at the same time I was reliving the memory.

I also had to uncover the difficult experiences of sexual abuse, which took several more years of work to fully integrate and overcome... one can never know if, what, when, or what nature of memory will come up... so please be kind to yourself and find the appropriate additional support if you should embark on this journey.

I've also witnessed other people uncover and overcome similar experiences, further validating my perspective that this opportunity is possible for almost anyone who is willing to feel deeper, and give themselves the necessary time to unpack it - even if what is underneath the surface is something difficult to face.

More than anything else, I want you to know that it is possible to overcome your limitations. I've dedicated my entire life to both demonstrating, facilitating, and learning to verbalize and educate people on the amazing mystery of this mind-body connection and release through the power of therapeutic touch.

The woman's testimonial was too authentic... her tears were too real. On that massage table, she went 60 years into the past - to a childhood memory of trying to describe her pain to her parents, only to be neglected and ignored. My teacher released it like it was nothing, completely unfazed by the intensity of her emotional release. Once I got over the shock, I was fascinated, intrigued, and maybe even obsessed with understanding how this was possible.

I got even further confirmation that it was all real when he next worked on me a few weeks later. It wasn't just soft tissue manipulation I was feeling, but every feeling I ever had about my body image from the tumor, the way the pain limited my mobility and kept me away from being more physically embodied and confident in myself - it all came up to be felt, at which point the tissue release just occurred as if on its own.

And I cried, too.

From that moment on, I was hooked. I had to learn this. I had to help others experience this incredible transformation and freedom from limitation.

I learned all I could and made the next 12 years of my life about learning and offering various bodywork therapies to take people as deep as I could into this feeling-nature somatic experience.

Similarly, I remembered almost choking to death while falling off of a swing set and having the wind knocked out of me. During that experience, I felt what could only be described as a stomach herniation releasing at the same time I was reliving the memory. It all happens simultaneously to the point where it feels like magic.

I also had to uncover the difficult experiences of sexual abuse, which took several more years of work to fully integrate and overcome... one can never know if, what, when, or what nature of memory will come up... so please be kind to yourself and find the appropriate additional support if you should embark on this journey.

Beyond myself, I've witnessed other people - my professional peers and clients alike, uncover and overcome similar experiences, further validating my perspective that this opportunity is possible for almost anyone who is willing to feel deeper, and give themselves the necessary time to unpack it - even if what is underneath the surface is something difficult to face.

More than anything else, I want you to know that it is possible to overcome your limitations. I've dedicated my entire life to both demonstrating, facilitating, and learning to verbalize and educate people on the amazing mystery of this emotion-body connection and release through the power of therapeutic touch.

So - why a week long intensive?

I've realized that this level of work is not for everyone, and that people still come into bodywork therapy expecting a 'massage' for physical pain symptoms, like I did when I first started my journey.

Some of my local clients experience the first signs of emotional release and profound changes and sign up for more - while others reach the barrier of their discomfort and aren't yet ready to feel the things they've neglected -
and that's OK.

But for those who are ready for profound healing... stay with me, I promise it will be worth it.

It's  time to move past the paradigm of 'one hour of self-care once per month' and start offering these somatic bodywork services in a way that gives people the opportunity to truly go deep into their feeling nature, long enough for the work to unfold at each individual body's own pace.

More slowly, gently, and without forcing - this is the way.
An hour treatment here and there simply doesn't provide the same potential.

So put simply, I am being called to this -
to do the highest level work I am capable of, for the maximum transformation of my clients.

So if you are one of the ones I've been waiting for, I look forward to serving you.

Three Approaches, One Goal

These are the modalities that have created the deepest somatic experience for myself and others.
I believe them to be at the cutting edge of both material science and the transformational experience.
They create the most depth of sensation, activate the right brained feeling nature,
increase connection with self, and provide the most lasting therapeutic benefits.

CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the CranioSacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch practitioners release restrictions in the CranioSacral system, which has been shown to improve the functioning of the central nervous system, as well as many other systems of the body, such as digestive, musculoskeletal, respiratory, circulatory, and more.

CST creates a strong connection with the central nervous system, and often clients experiencing going into a deep REM state akin to a meditative trance or dream.

This altered feeling state allows for deep relaxation, along with the manipulation of the CranioSacral system, creates an 'opening from within' experience rather than an 'from the outside' manual manipulation of soft tissue.

My background is in traditional CranioSacral Therapy as taught by John E. Upledger and the Upledger Institute.

John F. Barnes MyoFascial
Release

The John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach® is considered to be the ultimate therapy that is safe, gentle and consistently effective in producing results that last.

Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests.

The medical approach is to drug patients so they temporarily are free from pain, but does nothing about the “straight-jacket” of pressure that is causing the pain.

Traditional physical, occupational and massage therapy treats the symptoms caused by the pressure of the “straightjacket” of the Myofascial system, but does nothing about the “straightjacket” of pressure that causes and perpetuates the symptoms. This is why so many patients only have temporary results never seeming to get better with traditional therapy. Only Myofascial Release treats the entire Myofascial mind/body complex eliminating the pressure of the restricted Myofascial system (the straightjacket) that causes the symptoms.

Somato-Emotional Release

SomatoEmotional Release™ (SER) is a therapeutic process that uses and expands on the principles of CST to help a person rid their body of the residual effects of past injuries and negative experiences. SER is based on university research conducted by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger and biophysicist Zvi Karni.

Physical forces enter a person's body at the time of an accident or injury. The injured body may immediately begin dissipating these forces and the natural healing process will follow, or the physical forces imposed upon the person's body may be retained rather than dissipated.

SER facilitates a gentle process for releasing tissue memory, thereby helping the person to decrease the adverse effects of past traumas.

SER is a holistic mind-body somatic approach that may also assist a person in gaining insight as to how that held trauma is influencing their physical and emotional health.

SER can support the person transition from dysfunction and unresolved issues towards wellness and optimal function.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions & Answers

Q. What is somatic bodywork, and how does it work?

The title 'somatic' doesn't necessarily describe a specific technique, but rather a therapeutic approach.

The intention behind the approach is to use the sensation of the treatment as a deep self-inquiry tool,

and I've chosen these particular techniques and modalities for their ability to bring a deep level of connection with ones ability to feel.

So while it is a manual therapy, which includes hands on contact with the body,  it is much more than just the physical aspect of tissue manipulation.

We work alongside the nervous system and the fascia to create states of deepened self awareness,

perception, and recognition, and may include therapeutic dialogue to unpack these

sensations by facilitating a conversation between the conscious mind and the sub/unconscious body.

Q. What makes your intensive different from other bodywork or healing programs?

Most bodywork practitioners offer clients hourly rates to be seen a few times a month for treatment.
While this makes slow to medium progress over time, a week long intensive sets the stage for massive change and growth.

In addition, many healing retreats focus on offering an itinerary of various treatments and experiences.
Does this sound familiar? Day one, yoga followed by breath work, followed by a lecture and lunch,
with an optional massage treatment in the evening before a cacao ceremony and ecstatic dance.

These are all great practices to experience deepened embodiment,
but there isn't usually an opportunity to go
deep instead of wide, and many of these are self-facilitated

experiential group workshops rather than 1-on-1 deep, therapeutic sessions with a skilled practitioner.

In terms of creating change within your body and psyche, the more time we have to move through the old patterns
before the return of daily demands, stress, wear and tear of life's challenges, the more lasting change we can achieve.

Q. Who is Daniel, and what qualifications does he have?

Daniel has been a bodyworker since 2012, first studying as an amateur apprentice of Larch Hanson,
a 40 year veteran of Structural Integration - though this relationship offered no credits or certifications,
it set the stage for deep presence, stillness, and awareness -  frankly, the things that do not get taught
in basic massage therapy school. After having these cherished experiences with his mentor,
he became a licensed bodywork therapist in 2015, specializing in CranioSacral Therapy &
MyoFascial Release through the Upledger Institute and John F Barnes schools, respectively.

More than the teachings, more than the teachers, it has been the practice itself that has transmit much of the knowledge.

Through stillness, through removing the filter of the self, we learn to feel deeper and more subtle nuances within the body.

The results people experience are simply a by-product of a deepening stillness and path of least resistance.

Q. What can I expect during a typical day at the intensive?

How we structure your day is entirely up to you in the moment.
On the first day, we'll spend a little extra time doing a thorough intake procedure,
postural assessment, and a conversation about what to expect.

From there, know that you've got me for a guaranteed 4.5 hands on hours per day.
Whether you decide to keep going in one 4.5 hour long session, break up your day with a hike or trip to the mountains,
or sleep in and work with me in the afternoon - it is all up to you. I am making space to go with the flow of your inner wisdom
and what is right for you, and often the integration period between hands on session hours looks different for everyone.

Plan your trip to Western North Carolina with integration and introspection in mind.
Find somewhere peaceful with minimal distractions, close to nature, bring a journal or a book of prayer,
or ask me for an additional itinerary of complimentary services or workshops to take in while you're in town.

Asheville is a Mecca of Healing Potential, and I'm happy to provide you with additional local resources,
but also keep in mind that the work we are doing will be deep, potentially require integration time,
and you may just prefer to go back to your sanctuary and rest.

Focus deeply on your process, do what makes the most sense for you, and you will get the most out of your time.

Q. Is this program suitable for beginners, or do I need prior experience with bodywork?

If you have any concern that this intensive may be akin to 'jumping in the deep end' please reach out to schedule a call with me.
If you submit your information in the online form on this page, please be as detailed as possible.

There are so many factors that determine an individual's progress on their healing journey -
some first timers are simply ready to take the leap of faith, like I was.

Others may have specific health needs and complications that may slow progress,
but don't necessarily discount the benefit of what's being offered.

However - if you have been 'doing all the things' from yoga, to breath work, to body work,
to meditation, to retreats, to ayahuasca, to etc. etc. etc.

Here is your chance to go deep, organically, through the vehicle of your own body
and you will get the results that come with dedicating yourself to doing your own work.

Q. What types of results can I expect from the intensive?

While I must disclaim that I can not force, provoke, or guarantee a specific therapeutic outcome,
I have seen this work put people in the correct state of awareness that allows a deeper level of release to occur.

At minimum, even after one session of this nature, people report experiences of the following:

- a deeper sense of connection to themselves

- relief from physical pain and restricted mobility

- an increased feeling of balance, tranquility, and peace of mind

- improved decision making and emotional response to stress

- renewed sense of purpose, awareness of goals, and clarity

- 'the weight is gone' of both physical and emotional burdens

- improved sensory awareness, see colors, imagery

- recovery and release of repressed memories

Q. How much does the program cost, and are there payment options available?

Early Bird pricing is $3500 until November 15th, 2023
Full Price of $4500 begins on November 16th, 2023

All pricing is pay in full, I do not currently accept payment plans.

Q. What is the cancellation policy if I need to change my reservation?

Unless otherwise specified, all sales are final.

My policy reflects an earnest desire for you to commit fully to walking through this portal of change.

These sessions are initiations and like any big transformation, sometimes the forces of self-sabotage, fear, or doubt kick in.

I ask that you set a strong intention to walk past the threshold of possibility, stick to your dates,
and make your own magic around the experience by preparing your body with complimentary dietary, lifestyle, and spiritual practice.

Extreme circumstances and emergencies may be rescheduled at the sole discretion of the practitioner.

Q. What is the maximum group size for each intensive week?

The intensives are 1-on-1.

These are deep containers dedicated solely to your energy, your transformation, and your therapeutic process.

Friends and family are welcome to accompany you on your trip for support,
but unless discussed prior to treatment should not be in the therapy room during session.

Q. What should I bring or prepare for the intensive week?

Please bring plenty of water with you for each session.

Suggested attire is to wear simple athletic clothes, shorts for men,
sports bra and athletic shorts, or swimsuit for women during treatment.

CranioSacral Therapy can be performed fully clothed,

so accommodations can be made for individuals with hesitancy around hand to skin contact.

However if you wish to experience the full range of offerings, MyoFascial Release requires hand to skin contact.

If you have any hesitancy or further questions, please just make a note in your application,
and I'll happily reach out to you to further discuss your individual needs.

Q. Is there any pre-intake process or assessment to tailor the intensive to my needs?

I would love to speak to you prior to scheduling your intensive to make sure that we are a good fit for a client-therapist relationship.

Additionally, prior to starting on Day 1, we'll have a thorough conversation, intake procedure, and assessment before starting treatment.

Q. What safety measures are in place during the bodywork sessions?

Because we work with the body, rather than against it - there is very little potential for physical risk or harm from treatment.

If you have specific medical conditions that may be contra-indicated to receive manual therapy,
you may wish to consult with your physician prior to scheduling.

As for your emotional wellness, I hold an extremely clean frame and you are always in control of the session at all times.

Should you need to slow down, pause, or even stop treatment, I always empower you to speak your needs.

Many times, it has been me on the table needing to express deep wounds and traumas.
I am here for you to let go of it all, at your pace, at your comfort, and will do everything I can to instill that safety and security in all of our interactions from start to finish.

Q. How do I book my preferred week for the intensive?

When requesting more information, please make note of your preferred week as well as one additional backup week if your first request is already taken.

Q. Can I combine this intensive with other healing practices or therapies I'm already undergoing?

If you are already well practiced in this type of process - you know yourself, your limits, and your goals.
I encourage you to move gently, calmly, and slowly.
Less is more. The main skill being practiced is self-awareness.

Move from your center and let it all fall into place, even if that means a lot of sleep and stillness instead of a to-do list of 'more healing.'

Q. What if I can't travel, will you come to me?

On a limited, case by case basis, I am willing to arrange travel plans a few times per year.
For travel work, my rate is significantly higher and must be paid in full.
If this is your preference, please make a note in your inquiry and we can discuss your options.

What people are saying...

Words cannot convey how exceptional Daniel is!

I have had extensive bodywork experience for two decades, due to complex structural issues and have consulted/been treated by many, so needless to say this is not my first rodeo.

Daniel was attentive, clear, grounded, thoughtful and his technique was so very stabilizing. The perfect amount of skill and Intuition.

The fact he is educated in both Myofascial and CST is a huge plus.

I have been looking for someone with his skill set and abilities that can help to transmute the complexities of what my body has been holding for a long time!

You won’t be sorry if you book!

Daniel is amazingly intuitive.

Receiving CranioSacral therapy from him was incredibly effective.

He is able to tune in to the parts of my body that need the most attention and directs all of his energy into them. I was able to feel openings where I never knew there could be any.

His touch was gentle, yet very powerful. I felt more deeply relaxed than I ever have.

The atmosphere of the studio is perfect, too, and I immediately felt at home when I arrived.

I really admire the work he is doing here.

I have very old patterns of tension throughout my body and have seen many many bodyworkers for the same problems.

Daniel’s techniques were so intuitive and personal, it is definitely unlike anything I’ve received, making the experience totally unique to what he provides.

I felt so much release  and more movement in my joints.

I’ve had so many sessions that end up with the practitioner fighting to knead out the tension in my body, but Daniel’s approach is a beautiful balance of gentle touch and having the insight and knowledge to apply it where it is the most effective.

I rarely get the experience of feeling my body responding and relaxing so much.

Had my first session with Dan today and it was an amazing experience, and quite unlike any bodywork I have had done before.

Dan is intuitive and kind, and clearly very skilled at what he does. I was immediately relaxed and at ease on the table and felt like I was able to release a lot.

I have had chronic pain for 20 years now and I think working with Dan might be the key to finally healing this pain for good.

Daniel is truly a master of his art!

Intuitive, precise and highly skilled. What a joy to encounter this kind of experience.

CranioSacral with Daniel was out of this world...

I actually felt like I left my body and and moved into another dimension.

I felt super comfortable, relaxed and a great flow of energy.
